Pranayama: Yoga Breathing in Depth
- June 12, 2017 - July 23, 2017
9:00 am - 11:55 pm
Pranayama is a practice of settling your attention on your breath. As attention becomes balanced, so too does the nervous system. Most of us are used to working through psychological troubles, such as attention imbalances like anxiety, or emotional dysregulation, by thinking through our difficulties or trying to make things better in our outer circumstances. Pranayama uses breathing to create spaciousness around symptoms while reducing stress and opening the inner body.
Taught by Michael Stone, Pranayama: Yoga Breathing in Depth is a six-week home immersion program covering breathing sequences in an accessible and step-by-step manner to lead to meditative insight, emotional stability, improved concentration, and joy.
Learn the foundations needed to establish a pranayama practice, as well as the physical, psychological and therapeutic benefits of yoga breathing.
We set the rhythm for the course, releasing a new lesson each week, but you ultimately get to set the pace. You can do the lessons whenever you choose, in any time zone, anywhere in the world where there is an Internet connection.
In addition to the six lessons offered, you’ll also get access to a private discussion forum and live weekly Q&A meetings with a course facilitator. Plus, you’ll get lifetime access to the course content.
Who is Pranayama: Yoga Breathing in Depth for?
This course is for you if you’re interested in learning the foundations for establishing a regular pranayama practice. Deepen your practice beyond asana-only and gain insight into developing non-reactivity and compassion.
This course is for you if you want to deepen and refine your already established pranayama practice. Learn to work with deeper psychological and emotional holding patterns and to use the breath to train the mind towards greater clarity.
Please note, this course is not recommended during pregnancy.
I am blown away by this course… I loved the detailed instructions in the videos and the support via calls and emails. I loved the practices and am excited to continue them daily.
This course is designed to be an experiential and in-depth study of pranayama practices rarely taught in contemporary yoga studios.
- how to develop a daily practice
- how to refine therapeutic breathing practices
- how to work with hindrances that arise in pranayama practice
- how to use pranayama to stabilize emotions and distractedness
- details of anatomy and esoteric physiology that help bring basic breathing patterns to life
We will cover the following pranayama practices: ujjayi pranayama, bandhas, viloma pranayama, kevala kumbhaka, sama vritti, vishama vrtii, nadi shodhana, tadaka mudra, savasana and kapalabhati.
I have integrated pranayama into my daily practice and am becoming more aware of the effects that breathing, sitting, and movement practice have on my nervous system. I feel like I’ve dropped a little deeper into my body.
How does the course work?
You’ll receive weekly video teachings with Michael via our easy-to-use, custom-built online learning platform. You’ll also be connected to our ever-growing international community without walls through our private discussion forum and will get to participate in live weekly Q&A meetings with a course facilitator.
Accessing the Course
The weekend before the course begins, you’ll receive an orientation email that will give you access to our online learning platform. You’ll be able to log in, learn the platform quickly, and set up your dashboard before the course begins.
Each Monday you’ll receive access to a new video lesson to watch whenever you choose. Videos are available for streaming or download. You can also listen to an audio-only MP3 version.
Should you run into any problems, friendly and helpful technical support is available.
There is a private discussion forum moderated by Michael and support staff. We recommend checking this forum regularly (or choose to receive email updates by clicking “subscribe”). It’s a great place to ask practice-related questions, share insights, and feel connected to the course and other participants.
The forum thrives on a spirit of generosity and shared intellect. Participation is a key part of the online learning experience—your presence can enhance everyone’s experience.
You’ll have the option to join a course facilitator each week for live Q&A meetings, which provide an opportunity to discuss what’s arising for you as you go through the course.
We’ll provide you with a video tutorial, plus detailed instructions, so that you can be set up for the discussions using GoToMeeting.
Meetings will be recorded for those unable to participate and a link posted by end-of-day Friday.
We ask that you commit to a daily pranayama practice during the six weeks of this course. Expect to commit to a minimum of 4 hours a week, including watching the video, practicing the techniques each day, connecting with the community in the forum, and live Q&A calls with the course facilitator.
What’s on the syllabus?
Here’s an overview of what we’ll be covering each week:
Week 1 – Beginning a Pranayama Practice
Week 2 – Training the Mind Towards Clarity
Week 3 – Beyond Asana: Developing Compassion
Week 4 – Pranayama and Samskaras
Week 5 – Helpful Practices To Go Deeper
Week 6 – Internalizing the Pranayama Practice
As a yoga teacher, this course was a good reminder that something as common as ujjayi breathing is not really simple at all, and that it’s worth giving the practice some time and attention while guiding asana classes. This course has helped me get clearer on how I can communicate the practice to students.
Once again you’ll get:
- access to our online learning platform, including a private discussion forum
- six weeks of lessons
- live weekly Q&A calls with a course facilitator
- lifetime access to the course content.
The entire course costs $300 plus tax.
Please note: nobody is turned away for lack of funds. Complete this form to inquire about our sliding scale.
